Often, thyroid disease develops latently. Symptoms such as irritability, tearfulness, sleep disturbances, nervousness, changes in appetite and body weight, we often interpret as a manifestation of fatigue, overwork at work or depression. And we “blame” all other symptoms on the consequences of nervous exhaustion. But all this can be influenced by the thyroid gland.
Feeling unwell can be caused by a lack of thyroid hormones – hypothyroidism, an excess of hormones – thyrotoxicosis, as well as symptoms of compression of the neck organs by an enlarged thyroid gland – goiter, with normal levels of hormones in the blood ( euthyroidism ).
Thyroid hormones (thyroid-stimulating) control the basal metabolism in the body and affect the formation of heat, the absorption of oxygen, the speed and strength of heart contractions, the work of the nervous system and our emotional state, the speed and strength of the gastrointestinal tract, the rate of synthesis of structural proteins – of which all cells of the body are built.
Thyroid hormones stimulate the growth and development of the body, affect the formation of the nervous system and mental development. Therefore, it is so important to control them during pregnancy planning. Thyroid hormone is necessary for ovulation, it contributes to the preservation of pregnancy, regulates the function of the mammary glands. The normal course of pregnancy, development and growth of the child is impossible without the presence of these hormones.
Thyroid hormones control and increase the conversion and absorption of all nutrients: fats, proteins and carbohydrates.
For example, they increase the breakdown of fat and inhibit its deposition. That is why an increased amount of these hormones in a person’s blood causes a sharp emaciation, and a decrease leads to the accumulation of excess weight.
And these are not all areas of influence of thyroid-stimulating hormones, so check the thyroid gland , and be healthy!
